Our History
The Challenger Learning Center of the San Fernando Valley was founded as a not for profit corporation, under IRS 501(c)(3), in August of 2002, under the name Foundation for Innovative Learning.
The Foundation embraced the vision that children should be provided with a set of intellectual tools to help them solve the problems they will encounter throughout their lives.
In the following four years the Foundation for Innovative Learning strived to provide tools to students by creating unique curricula and presenting them to students in schools in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties.
In 2006 it became clear that the focus of the Foundation for Innovative Learning had shifted to the building of a Challenger Learning Center.
In order to clarify our message and mission it was decided to change our name to the Challenger Learning Center of the San Fernando Valley.

The Mission Continues
The mission of the Challenger STS-51-L was one of education.
That mission carried the first teacher in space, Christa McAuliffe.
While our goal has not changed from helping students become better problem solvers, our path to that accomplishment is now straight through a Challenger Learning Center.
Our number 1 priority is to build the Challenger Learning Center of the San Fernando Valley (CLC-SFV).
After the CLC-SFV is established we will revisit our problem solving outreach programs.
